Become an Civil Engineer 2 at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll serve as a technical and operational lead for Caltrans Design Standard Decision Documents (DSDDs) and Encroachment/Utility Policy Exceptions (EPEs), shaping engineering direction and accelerating permit readiness for T&D projects. You’ll oversee end‑to‑end consultant contract management, drive cross‑functional coordination with internal business partners and Caltrans districts, and maintain digital dashboards and workflow tools to streamline a high volume of deliverables. You’ll strengthen agency and stakeholder relationships through proactive engagement, facilitate feedback loops to resolve permitting comments, and champion process improvements and new digital solutions. Additionally, you’ll manage a dynamic project portfolio, provide quality‑assurance leadership across all work products and financial documents, and uphold rigorous document control for extensive DSDD/EPE records, ensuring consistent, high‑quality, and timely outcomes.  Other responsibilities may or may not be required as outlined below. Responsibilities

  • Performs inspections and evaluations of existing conditions for various electrical equipment and systems for proper installation, problem identification/ trouble shooting, and overall improvements
  • Ensures system event assessments and RCA are performed for equipment failures and implements corrective actions, confirming proper mitigation plans are in place
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and design plans related to projects and analysis of increasing scope and complexity
  • Conducts independent engineering work, receiving guidance on the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Performs power system modeling and analyses utilizing software tools and applications; stays informed of technology advancements, market trends, and relevant guidelines and standards related to energy technology
  • Ensures the performance of day to day preventive maintenance activities to maintain equipment and ensure continued operation according to required standards including
  • Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) quality and environmental and reliability standards
  • Helps ensure infrastructures supporting processes are validated/qualified throughout their life cycle
  • Develops the engineering facility design, including but not limited to electrical system design, such as sizing, creating one-line diagrams, and selecting equipment
  • Assists in the development of new technology and standards strategy and the implementation of strategies into business operations to improve power system funcionality and quality of service to customers
  • Act as project sponsors with some technical assistance when responding to technical questions requiring project modification to move projects through their lifecycle.
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific/technical/math field.
  • Two or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
  • Possess a valid Class C Driver’s License.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Civil engineering experience
  • California PE license in Civil Engineering
  • Experience in road design
  • Experience obtaining permits and approvals from Caltrans or other jurisdictional agencies
  • Hands-on experience with Caltrans DSDD and EPE documentation.
  • Experience managing engineering contractors
  • Experience in Autodesk AutoCAD and Bluebeam.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

 

Additional Information 

 

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
