Become an Interconnection Customer Project Development, Engineer 3 within the Transmission and Substation Project Development organization at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this role, you’ll support generation and large customer/load interconnections above 50 kV by developing substation scopes, coordinating cost and schedule estimates, and sponsoring projects through execution. As the central engineering contact during facility studies, you’ll align critical stakeholders such as engineering, planning, project management, environmental, real properties, protection, telecom, and power system controls, to deliver reliable connection requirements, defensible estimates, and schedules that will be presented to customers.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures technical issues and problems are resolved in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner utilizing available resources.
  • Supervises, leads, and coordinates work with full time and contract employees in the execution of new technical strategies, equipment or standards.
  • Conducts life cycle assessments for utility infrastructure materials and processes; improves preventive maintenance procedures to decrease overall downtime.
  • Conducts risk assessments and implements risk mitigation strategies to ensure the safety and reliability of engineering projects.
  • Supports audits and inspections; ensures compliance with relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Provides engineering and technical expertise and guidance for the identification, analysis and resolution of high impact, complex and/or cross-functional problems in engineering.
  • Ensures the engineering facility design basis is controlled and design basis documentation is maintained. Conducts engineering and related studies with full technical responsibility for planning and coordinating high-impact complex projects.
  • Provides support and technical training to junior engineering levels.
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Bachelor's Degree in a scientific/technical/math field.
  • Five or more years of experience in engineering within operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
  • Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with substation engineering and design including developing scope, cost, and schedule for substation projects
  • Knowledge of generation interconnections, large customer load interconnections, or utility planning processes, such as Wholesale Distribution Access Tariff (WDAT), Transmission Owner Tariff (TOT), Rule 21
  • Experience developing and delivering technical presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience sponsoring customer projects
  • Strong customer engagement and stakeholder management skills

 

 

Additional Information

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

  • Position will require up to 20% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position – Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation.  Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
  • Relocation does not apply to this position.
