INTEGRITY. RESPECT. FAMILY. SAFETY.

MEET ERIC JONES, SCE DISTRIBUTION FIELD SUPERVISOR

Meet Eric Jones — A Distribution Field Supervisor with over two decades of experience. Before starting his career with SCE as a meter reader, he was a fire department reservist. Two years after joining the SCE team, Eric began working toward becoming a Journeyman Lineman, a career move that opened up opportunities and put him in a position to help others while achieving his dreams and goals. Eric started at an entry-level position, coming in as a groundman where he supported crews in maintaining and repairing electrical systems served by the Covina, Fullerton and Redlands service centers.

After spending two years as a groundman, he started the SCE apprenticeship training program to become a Journeyman Lineman and was promoted to E-Crew Foreman. He is now in a leadership role as a Distribution Field Supervisor where he oversees electrical crews for the building, maintenance, and emergency restoration for his districts’ electrical grid.

Safety has always been a significant value that Eric has committed to in his work and personal life. As a Safety Team Sponsor, he shares, “When I address safety with our team, I coach our employees to follow established safety procedures so they can return home safely to their family.” Safety is paramount in all jobs at SCE, but even more so in line careers where you are working with high voltage equipment so prioritizing the safety of yourself, team members, customers, and the community is crucial. Eric says, “In our industry, when safe practices are not followed, the chances for serious injuries are greatly increased. When I discuss safety with anyone, I think about their well-being and family. I want them to return home better than when they left. With this thought in mind, I coach our employees to put our established safety procedures into practice.”

In Eric’s personal life, family values and philanthropy have always played a large part in his foundation. He loves spending time with his wife and three children. He is very active in his community, volunteering as a youth coach for football, soccer, and basketball and as a youth leader for local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Eric and his wife also support their church by serving meals to people in need. As a Black man, Eric says he also wants to leave a lasting legacy for his family and community. He shares, “In today’s society, my family can be looked at through a different lens and explaining that to my children can be difficult.” Eric is looking to tackle this by empowering youth to reach their full potential through hard work, education and determination. He says, “We can provide the foundation for them to succeed in any path they choose.”

Share about your involvement with Networkers (SCE’s Black Resource Group)

I enjoy volunteering my time with Networkers, supporting their mission to promote diversity within SCE and identifying career enhancement strategies for its members. As the work with our communities’ advances, I look forward to giving back and contributing to a brighter future.

We are celebrating Black History Month in February. What does Black history month mean to you?

Black History Month is a celebration of our history, struggles and achievements. It is a time to share with family and celebrate our past family members’ victories that live in our hearts. Black History Month is a time to reach out to our brothers and sisters and encourage community togetherness and celebrate our lives as Americans. As a young man, diversity, equity and inclusion was not discussed often, and you did not always know about inequities happening. We are witnessing challenging times coming to the forefront of our society. I choose to view under the umbrella of life, where we all have a fair and equal opportunity in this world.
