MEET MARJAN RAJABI, CYBER SECURITY COMPLIANCE MANAGER
Marjan Rajabi manages the Cyber Security Compliance in the Grid Services (GS) organization within the Information Technology unit (IT) at Southern California Edison. The GS organization plans, builds, operates and maintains SCE’s computing systems, applications, and infrastructure supporting the electric grid for 15 million Californians. In her role, Marjan is responsible for ensuring that the cybersecurity practices required by regulation governing electric utilities are put in place and adhered to. Strong defenses around these systems protect the electric grid from hackers who otherwise could attack the power grid and disrupt electric service.
Marjan began her career in 2010 as a manager of corporate cybersecurity. She led the deployment of a vulnerability management solution across the company, allowing the scanning and detection of weak security in systems and networks, including pioneering security scans of critical systems managing the flow of electricity on the power grid. She is also a member of the IT Women’s Forum, and a passionate mentor supporting the development of women in technical fields.
Marjan holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Loyola Marymount University and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California. She has held certifications in cybersecurity, risk management, network technology, project management, and organizational change management. She is an avid learner, and even in her spare time enjoys learning and practicing piano, martial arts, motorcycling, scuba diving, meditation, and more. She also enjoys spending time with her family. One of her favorite quotes is “Whatever the mind of man can conceive, and bring itself to believe, it can achieve.” – Napoleon Hill
How has SCE helped support you through your career?
I have had exceptional leaders at SCE who encouraged and supported me to spread my wings and take on growing opportunities in which I developed both my technical and people skills. They have also been supportive during my challenging life events, allowing for work/life balance. I subscribe to taking full responsibility for my career development, and SCE provides many resources including mentoring, training, and developmental opportunities to help me fulfill my goal. I especially appreciate SCE’s cultural emphasis on “green frame of mind” thinking, and steering through day-to-day dealings with an “internal locus of control”, in which you take full responsibility for the events in your life, thus helping you be more stress-free and satisfied in life.
