The pay range and the specific pay for the successful candidate are determined in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between Southern California Edison Company and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 47.

A day in the life – Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

  • Lead a group of safety professionals whose focus is employee and contractor safety oversight and providing valuable feedback to organization leaders to promote safe work practices and incident prevention.
  • Lead a multi-faceted organization that has overall responsibility for employee and contractor safety policies and programs.
  • Ensure safety strategies are carried out and lead actions that promote safety culture development.
  • Support, develop and ensure measurable goals and consistent metrics are established to promote worker safety.
  • Make decisions driven by corporate and business unit key performance indicators based on opportunities identified through trend analysis.
  • Support SCE organizations by promoting safety thru the execution of culture improvements, regulatory compliance, and the implementation of safety policies and procedures.
  • Interact with employees and contractors at all levels.
  • Reinforce, develop and strategize tools and resources to ensure hazard awareness and risk mitigation for SCE’s workforce.
  • Support SCE’s cause evaluation process and pursue actions to support timely reporting and the development of effective corrective actions.
  • Support the development of critical communications that support incident prevention.

The essentials

  • Five or more years combined experience performing or supervising safety functions.
  • Five years of experience leading and/or working to improve overall safety performance with safety programs, process, and regulations within construction of transmission or distribution systems and substations.
  • Valid US Driver’s License.

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with experience consulting with Sr. Management such as executives and directors.
  • Strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, proven record of effective collaboration and cross-functional alignment, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
  • Knowledge of Construction, Maintenance and Design standards, OSHA regulations, safety work practices and procedures and labor contracts.
  • Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) or other safety certification.

You should know

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.

  • Position will require up to 40 – 50% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position – Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
  • Relocation does not apply to this position.
