    This pay range represents the rates of pay for step 1 to the maximum step for this position. The pay range and the specific pay for the successful candidate are determined in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between Southern California Edison Company and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 47.

Become an EMS Advisor at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll be the lead advisor on Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) advanced analytic and visualization applications e.g. wide area visualization, oscillation detection, linear state estimator, etc.

 

Focus area for this position includes:

  • Application Development: Collaborate closely with vendors, EMS engineers, business clients, and other stakeholders to develop advanced analytic and visualization applications for PMU.
  • System Integration: Develop system integration solutions to facilitate seamless data flow between grid operation systems e.g. EMS, WAMS, RAS, ICCP, historian, etc.
  • Best Practices/Guidelines: Develop best practices and guidelines on operation and maintenance of PMU applications.
  • Documentation: develop operation and maintenance documentations to promote knowledge sharing and on-going training for supporting staff.

Responsibilities

  • Performs ongoing EMS maintenance, administration, and system upgrades
  • Monitors and analyzes energy usage data to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for optimization
  • Adheres to software development life cycle (SDLC) and EMS processes which includes performing testing and validation of grid applications and user interface changes to deliver quality software to customers
  • Collaborates with battery scientists and algorithm engineers, and develops performance requirements for miscellaneous energy management software
  • Prepares recommendations to senior management on high-level technical issues pertaining to the grid control applications
  • Executes software development and maintenance support for the grid control applications as they relate to the operation and control of the electrical grid
  • Supports computer systems, software applications, databases and tools. Analyzes error conditions, identifies potential causes of problems, utilizes root cause analysis techniques, and looks for multiple solutions and expedites resolution
  • Utilizes documented procedures and processes to achieve system reliability and efficiency
  • Develops implementation plans for individual or small group tasks and small to medium projects. Accountable for developing scope, estimation, and tracking time and resources expended on projects
  • Maintains plans related to data integrity, system reliability, and consistency
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Seven or more years of experience architecting or designing technology solutions for mission critical systems.
  • Experience with Transmission and Distribution networks, SCADA and control systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years of experience with State Estimator and/or Linear State Estimator.
  • Five or more years of experience with maintaining large electrical models.
  • One or more years of experience with developing visualization for electrical grid.
  • Experience with Common Information Model (CIM), Wide Area Measurement System, and system integration.
  • Experience in programming with C++, Java, SQL/PL, Python, or PowerShell.

 

Additional Information

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

  • The primary work location for this position is Alhambra, CA.  However, the successful candidate may also be asked to work for an extended amount of time at Santa Ana, CA.
  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position – Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation.  Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
  • This position has an option for a 9/80 Alternate Work Schedule or 40hrs/5 days a week.
