Become a Power Systems Engineer 3 at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you will work with a team to perform analysis and provide recommendations to address technical issues related to Real-Time reliability operation and control of an electric utility. You will also be part of the implementation and deployment of the replacement or enhancement of a Real-Time Power System Network Modeling and Applications. You will work closely with the business clients to understand their requirements and understanding of how the business uses the applications for reliability monitoring, control, and maintenance of the electric grid.
Additionally, you will develop, validate, and optimize electrical models to ensure reliable and efficient power delivery.

Responsibilities
- Ensures technical issues and problems are resolved in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner utilizing available resources
- Supervises, leads, and coordinates work with full time and contract employees in the execution of new technical strategies, equipment or standards.
- Conducts life cycle assessments for utility infrastructure materials and processes; improves preventive maintenance procedures to decrease overall downtime
- Conducts risk assessments and implements risk mitigation strategies to ensure the safety and reliability of engineering projects
- Supports audits and inspections; ensures compliance with relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations
- Provides engineering and technical expertise and guidance for the identification, analysis and resolution of high impact, complex and/or cross-functional problems in engineering
- Ensures the engineering facility design basis is controlled and design basis documentation is maintained
- Conducts engineering and related studies with full technical responsibility for planning and coordinating high-impact complex projects
- Provides support and technical training to junior engineering levels
- A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific/technical/math field.
- Five or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
- Possess a valid Class C Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
- Experience with SCADA Systems.
- Experience maintaining real-time power system applications such as: State Estimator, Real-time contingency analysis, Network Topology Processor.
- Experience performing power flow analysis for electric utilities.
- Effective communication, ethics, negotiation, teamwork and optimally manage multiple assignments at once.
Additional Information
- This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

- The primary work location for this position is Alhambra, CA. However, the successful candidate may also be asked to work for an extended amount of time at (alternate work location).
- This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position – Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
- This position has an option for a 9/80 Alternate Work Schedule or 40hrs/5 days a week.
- Relocation does not apply to this position.
