Become an Outage Management System (OMS) Senior Specialist at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll provide in-depth technical knowledge for critical outage management project work defining the future of Grid Management.  Your technical understanding will help ensure our team’s success by supporting the operations and maintenance of the existing OMS system.  You will also leverage your skills and experience to solve technical issues with our next generation outage and grid solutions.  As part of the IT team that brings these core capabilities to our T&D organization, you will make a true difference in the planning, delivery, and operational support of our Outage Management technologies.

 

SCE’s OMS provides critical planned and unplanned outage information to our Transmission & Distribution Organization as well as our Customer Service Organization. The system allows identification and management of outages from initial incidents through restoration and feeds analytical data to several outage-related systems.

Responsibilities

  • Performs technical evaluations of grid application systems and develops user training guide alongside team and management
  • Performs comprehensive energy audits to assess current energy usage, identify inefficiencies, and propose energy-saving measures
  • Advises management on various reliability issues, grid application tools performance gaps, and potential need for new analysis, software or technology development
  • Provides comprehensive engineering solutions to improve transmission system reliability and enable future growth of the Electric Transmission Grid
  • Identifies potential risks related to energy management and develops strategies to mitigate them
  • Evaluates electrical system engineering alternatives for various attributes, including cost, weight, package, quality, benchmarking, geometry creation and functional analysis
  • Provides recommendations to senior management on high-level technical issues pertaining to the grid applications
  • Ensures compliance with energy-related regulations and reporting requirements, preparing accurate reports for relevant authorities
  • Participates in major grid application vendor software enhancements, new product implementation and acceptance testing, ensures deployment in production is successful and cost effective
  • Ensures project KPIs are met and stays up-to-date with the latest energy management technologies and innovations, assessing their suitability for implementation
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience in designing, building, implementing, maintaining, and supporting complex Utility, Realtime or Enterprise systems  – OR – Five or more years of experience as a user of a Utility grid application

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Transmission and Distribution networks, SCADA and control systems.
  • Five or more years of experience working with and/or supporting an electric utility Outage Management System.
  • Possesses proficient analytical skills to troubleshoot complex problems related to real-time systems.
  • Experience creating and executing shell script and/or Python.
  • Experience with SQL queries and reporting tools and platforms.Experience performing data analysis and development of business reporting.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills to support working with cross-functional teams and vendors to achieve success in project activities.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and Jenkins.

 

 

Additional Information 

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

  • This position includes providing phone and occasional on-site technical support related to troubleshooting and resolving moderate to highly complex system issues.  OMS is supported 24/7, 365 through after-hours on-call that this position will participate in through weekly rotation.
  • The primary work location for this position is Santa, Ana.  However, the successful candidate may also be asked to work for an extended amount of time at an alternate work location.
  • Position will require up to 5% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory. 
  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position – Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation.  Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
  • This position has an option for a 9/80 Alternate Work Schedule or 40hrs/5 days a week.
  • Relocation does not apply to this position.
