Become a Capital Planning Engineering Manager at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of engineering scope for Distribution, Substation, and Transmission projects. Your leadership will directly influence the success of capital programs and operational efficiency across the organization.

 

Your work will enable efficient project execution, optimize resource utilization, and ensure the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions that meet regulatory and operational requirements. By balancing technical rigor with strategic foresight, you will help achieve capital investment goals and strengthen the reliability of the electrical grid.

 

Primary Duties will include:

  • Scope Release Management: Manage the scope release process for Distribution, Substation, and Transmission (D, S, and T) projects, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and capital targets.
  • Scope Planning and Scheduling: Oversee the release of levelized scope to execution teams by incorporating current work status through IPSEC, incorporating cycle times, need dates, and downstream capacity, while maintaining buffers for risk mitigation.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all scope packages meet technical engineering standards and guidelines, and include accurate accounting and project details, safeguarding compliance and reliability.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track and report on scope release performance against planned milestones, driving accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Communicate deliverables and deadlines effectively to SP&E engineering teams, fostering collaboration and clarity across all project phases.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a select set of engineering and business initiatives to develop grid strategies, determine how the grid is planned, designed, operated, and maintained to operationalize company’s strategy
  • Develops and maintains a project portfolio management system to prioritize projects, allocate resources, and monitor performance
  • Evaluates new technologies and methodologies to enhance project efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability, designing and implementing improvement projects and new systems to support site initiatives and improve operational efficiency
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with external partners, vendors, and contractors to support project delivery and innovation
  • Coaches engineering teams on professional development opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge
  • Leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy, technology and safety program to ensure company advancement toward future vision and the well-being of employees and contractors involved in engineering projects
  • Manages the engineering team that provides emergent and routine trouble-shooting support for plant technical needs. Manages various contract engineers and works with those individuals to ensure consistency and quality in design, delivery milestone dates, and cost
  • Leads the design and implementation of new equipment and cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety, reliability, and throughput
  • Develops goals for engineering team and assigns projects/roles to employees that translate Sr. Manager levels goals into actionable tasks
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five or more years of combined experience performing or supervising engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or STEM field.
  • Background or exp in electric utility industry.
  • Experience with strategic or operation planning, engineering, or analysis of the electric grid.
  • Experience developing and delivering technical presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams, setting clear stakeholder expectations, identifying critical path activities, and driving teams to meet milestones.

 

Additional Information 

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
