Become a Regulatory Accounting Advisor at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. This position is in the Regulatory Accounting & Analysis (RA&A) division within the Controller’s Department of SCE’s Finance Organizational Unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for accounting for regulatory balancing and memo accounts, accounting for Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Formula Rate revenue requirements, and operating revenue accounting and reporting. You will regularly collaborate with SCE’s CPUC and FERC Regulatory Affairs, Operational Finance, Treasurers and Tax Departments to assess the appropriate regulatory accounting recovery mechanism.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees processes related to general ledger and month end close entries.
  • Directs the annual financial statement audit by working directly with internal staff and external accounting firm.
  • Manages the preparation, compilation, and review of monthly and annual financial statements and other reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Communicates monthly variance analysis and reasoning for variance and trends.
  • Prepares a monthly cash report that identifies the current cash position for each bank account and reconciles all temporarily restricted fund balances for management.
  • Leads the development of the annual budget; aids in the review and validation of the annual operating budget and reviews a variety of spreadsheets, documents, and assists in completing the final budget documentation.
  • Takes part in the year-end audit; when requested by auditors, provides supporting schedules, work papers, and financial reports.
  • Analyzes and prepares a multitude of reports for financial, tax, and regulatory purposes. Performs financial analysis and provides support for quarterly forecasts and annual budgets.
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Seven or more years of experience in accounting.
  • Experience with interpreting and applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in accounting, finance, business, or related field. 
  • Experience in utility accounting, regulatory accounting, or related field. 
  • Experience performing month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis. 
  • Certified Public Accountant (active or inactive).
  • Experience in a public accounting firm and/or regulated utility.
  • Experience complying with SOX controls.
  • Familiarity with regulatory utility environments and cost recovery mechanisms preferred.
  • Reviewing and interpreting advice letters and decisions and assessing financial impact
  • Experience with SAP or similar enterprise software.
  • Ability to research, interpret and document Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. 
  • Advanced skills working with Microsoft Office Suite, especially using Microsoft Excel and creating VLOOKUP Formulas, Macros and Pivot Tables. 

 

 

Additional Information 

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
