Field Planner Technician Trainee Program

Our Field Planning Technicians are part of a team who loves to build, design, and modernize California’s energy grid. You will work on the front lines of response to our customers and communities, you will be behind every light switch, making contributions big and small, to help Southern California thrive. You also get to meet, interact, and partner with onsite team members and customers to provide meaningful outcomes. You will come in every single day knowing the work you do has a positive impact and that you’re making a huge difference.

Our Field Planning Technicians work closely with planners and designers to perform field visits using tools like SPIDA and SharePoint to do field verifications and pole calculations.

All you need is experience, training, or education in drafting, mapping, architecture, construction, engineering, or electrical and a valid drivers license. Trainee positions offer compensation at a rate of $34.50 per hour.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The qualifications for a Field Planning Technician Trainee are: 1) Experience, training, or education in any of the following fields: Drafting, Mapping, Architecture, Construction, Engineering, or Electrical and 2) a valid drivers license.
The duration of the training program is about 10 weeks. The formal training starts the week after your hire date. The training consists of a hybrid virtual/physical classroom training for 6 weeks, followed by 4 weeks of on-the-job training at your designated work location. Upon successful completion of training, you will graduate from being a Trainee and will become a bona fide Field Planning Technician.
Yes! This is paid training to help you learn skills for a new career as a Field Planning Technician.
Attendance is expected for the duration of training. Make-up classes and make-up tests during training are not offered. Incomplete training due to absences and missed tests will result in unsuccessful completion of training program and dismissal from the program and the company.
Yes. Please apply to any locations you are passionate to work at and willing to commute. Your application will only be in consideration for the positions in which you have applied.
Current and valid drivers licenses will qualify. However, out of state drivers must transfer or apply for a license from the California DMV since driving is part of this employment. California law requires that you notify the DMV within 10 days of becoming a California resident.
Upon successful completion of training, you will graduate from being a Trainee and will become Field Planning Technician to begin your career path in Planning at SCE.
Incomplete training due to absences, missed tests, or unsuccessful in passing tests will result in dismissal from the training program and separation from the company.
After 18 months of being a Field Planning Technician, you will be eligible to apply and advance to various positions within the Planning department or many other opportunities throughout SCE.
As a Field Planning Technician, you will spend about 70% of your time in the field.
You will be using a company vehicle upon successful complete of training program. While in training, you are expected to drive your own vehicle.
Mileage reimbursement is offered when driving your own vehicle for work purposes and reimbursed at the rate determined by the Federal Travel Regulations.
